In The Studio with Vivien Carolyn Reinert
Upcoming Artist in Residence
Vivien Carolyn Reinert (b. 1995, Hamburg, Germany) is a London-based mixed-media artist working across textiles, surface design and public art through techniques like screen and digital printing, quilting and digital embroidery. She studied at Central Saint Martins (BA Hons Textiles, 2019) and the Royal College of Art (MA Textiles, 2021).
Her work, which explores shared vulnerability, migration and memory, has been exhibited during London Craft Week and London Design Week and in the Kunsthalle Bremen (Germany). Conversation and co-creation are central to her process, translating lived experience into tactile, emotionally resonant artworks that invite physical engagement rather than distant viewing. Recent commissions include Cunard’s Queen Anne, a public mural project with Agora Arts Circle and a public sculpture for the Edinburgh Zoo. Her practice has been featured in, Queen Anne – The Art Collection“ and on the Talk Art podcast.
During her residency Vivien is planning to create a multi-panelled mixed-media textile installation that documents and responds directly to the surrounding neighbourhood of Shoreditch through patterns, shapes, colours, textures and material choices, combining quilted textile structures, digital embroidery, sublimation, tufting and screen printing, alongside lightweight sculptural elements.
As part of this project and in-line with her co-creative making approach, she will invite guests and team members to participate and contribute to her creation process – with selected contributions being incorporated into the final installation, allowing partakers to see themselves reflected in the work.
