Anti-Portrait: Reframing Photography


Join us for an extraordinary and exclusive event at art’otel London Hoxton Gallery on 24th August from 1pm till 4pm. Renowned art journalist Holly Howe will be in discussion with acclaimed artist Nigel Grimmer about his practice. The talk will be followed by a badge-making workshop, where attendees can produce their own miniature art piece to take home, inspired by Nigel’s art projects.
About Nigel Grimmer: Nigel’s art explores and reinterprets photographic history and traditional photographic processes, these projects question and reframe ideas of “otherness”. Nigel’s earlier works looked at the family photograph album, and he created alternative albums with his friends and family. Nigel’s current work looks at queer representation within dating apps and social media. He can be found on Instagram @nigel_grimmer_artist.


About Holly Howe: Holly Howe is a freelance art journalist, writing for various publications including The Art Newspaper, The Arts Society, State/F22 magazine, Complex and Elephant. She leads guided art walks in London and gives art talks at galleries and venues including Soho House, the Mondrian Hotel and the House of St Barnabas. She works with senior leaders in the art world, advising them on their websites, comms strategies and social media profiles, as well as with corporate clients to strengthen their internal communications. She has been a judge of art competitions, including It’s Art Call. She can be found on Instagram @hollytorious.
