Tweakments explained: The subtle aesthetic treatments everyone’s talking about
Once considered niche, aesthetic tweakments have become part of a wider lifestyle conversation that are less about transformation and more about refinement. These subtle, considered treatments work with your features rather than against them, enhancing skin health and confidence without obvious signs of intervention.
At art’otel London Battersea Power Station, luxury aesthetics clinician Dr Niarah Ahmad is seeing this shift first-hand. Specialising in advanced non-surgical treatments, she works with clients who want natural-looking results grounded in skin health, longevity and expert clinical care.
So what exactly are tweakments, and which ones are shaping the aesthetic landscape right now?
What is a tweakment?
“A tweakment is a minor aesthetic procedure designed to subtly enhance your appearance while maintaining a natural look,” explains Dr Ahmad. “It is not about changing how you look, but about refining and supporting what is already there.”
Unlike more dramatic cosmetic procedures, tweakments focus on gradual improvement. They are often preventative, helping skin age well over time rather than chasing visible signs of ageing once they appear.
The biggest tweakment trends right now
1. Skin health first treatments
According to Dr Ahmad, the biggest shift in aesthetics is a move away from volume-heavy treatments and towards skin quality.
“Healthy skin makes every treatment look better,” she says. “That is why skin-focused tweakments are so popular right now.”
Polynucleotides
Often referred to online as the “salmon sperm facial”, polynucleotides are made from highly purified fish DNA and injected into the skin to stimulate collagen production at a deep cellular level.
Benefits include:
- Improved hydration and elasticity
- Smoother texture and softened fine lines
- Brighter, more even skin tone
- Reduced redness, inflammation and improved appearance of scars
Polynucleotides are not just for the face but can also be used to treat delicate or often-overlooked areas such as under the eyes, neck, chest and hands. They are suitable for a wide age range and are increasingly used from as early as the twenties onwards for collagen banking.
2. Microneedling with exosomes
Microneedling has long been a trusted skin treatment, but pairing it with exosomes has taken results to another level.
Exosomes are applied to the skin after microneedling creates micro-channels, allowing them to penetrate deeper into the dermis. The result is enhanced collagen stimulation, improved skin firmness and a more youthful appearance.
This treatment is also gaining attention for its ability to stimulate hair growth, provided the hair follicle is still intact.
3. Biostimulating injectables for deeper lift
For those concerned about facial sagging or loss of structure, Dr Ahmad highlights biostimulating treatments such as Sculptra, Radiesse, HarmonyCa and Julaine.
“These treatments work deeper within the skin to stimulate collagen and create a lifting effect over time,” she explains. “They can help soften smile lines, marionette lines and jowls without solely relying on traditional dermal filler.”
This approach appeals to clients who want support and lift, but with subtle, long-term results.
How tweakments have become more natural
The days of overfilled faces are firmly behind us. While dermal fillers are still used, they are now applied conservatively and often combined with skin-quality treatments.
“People want to look like themselves, just fresher,” says Dr Ahmad. “By using smaller amounts of filler alongside collagen-stimulating treatments, results are softer and far more natural.”
Common concerns, answered
“Will I look fake?”
This is the most common fear Dr Ahmad hears. Her response is simple. When treatments are carried out by a qualified medical professional using the right products and appropriate amounts, results can remain completely natural.
“Will my face still move?”
Anti-wrinkle injections, when dosed correctly, do not freeze the face. They are used to soften movement, prevent deep lines and support long-term skin health.
“How do I know what I need?”
You do not need to arrive with all the answers. A thorough consultation is key, where concerns, goals and suitability are carefully assessed before any treatment plan is created.
Thinking about your first tweakment?
Dr Ahmad’s advice is refreshingly simple. Know your concerns, be open about your goals and choose a practitioner you trust.
“It is our responsibility to guide patients ethically and safely,” she says. “Sometimes that means advising against a treatment or encouraging you to take time to think before proceeding.”
Avoiding alcohol, caffeine and intense exercise before injectable treatments can help reduce bruising, but everything else will be discussed during your consultation.
