Christmas Tree Commission by Nathan Ward
Nathan Ward creates spectacular paper Christmas Tree for art'otel London Hoxton
Christmas Tree Commission by Nathan Ward
This festive season, we are excited to unveil a spectacular site-specific Christmas tree by acclaimed London-based paper artist Nathan Ward.
Standing approximately two metres tall in our reception area, the installation transforms the traditional Christmas tree into an enchanting illuminated village crafted entirely from paper and premium cardstock supplied by sponsors James Cropper and Winter & Co.
Inspired by the warmth, community and sense of wonder associated with the festive season, Ward’s sculpture is composed of intricately hand-crafted paper houses, miniature pine trees and delicate architectural details arranged in the form of a towering conical Christmas tree. Illuminated from within by warm LED lighting, the glowing windows and miniature paper-cut details create a magical winter scene that invites discovery from every angle.
The work forms a poetic connection to the hospitality experience at art’otel London Hoxton, with each illuminated house echoing the welcoming atmosphere of our rooms and shared spaces. From a distance, the installation will appear as a radiant festive landmark, while closer inspection reveals layers of craftsmanship, hidden details and carefully constructed paper landscapes.
Extending beyond the central sculpture, remnants and offcuts generated during the creation process will be transformed into a bespoke animated artwork for art’otel London Hoxton’s large-scale digital screens.
