Markets to visit in Amsterdam this summer
Summer is the perfect time for exploring Amsterdam’s markets. Whether you’re strolling around, buying things you normally wouldn’t or trying different delicacies, they offer an easy way to experience different sides of the city. Amsterdam has many unique markets worth visiting, and here are some of our favourites.
Waterlooplein markt
Open Monday – Saturday | 9:30 – 18:00
Open since 1893, Het Waterlooplein is the oldest flea market in the Netherlands and one of Amsterdam’s best-known spots for second-hand shopping. With around 300 stalls, you can spend hours browsing antiques, vintage clothing, jewellery, books and unexpected one-off finds. Who knows what you might discover?
Noordermarkt
Open Monday 9:00 – 14:00 and Saturday 9:00 – 16:00
Another market with a long history and enough being sold to keep busy for a while. Set in the Jordaan, Noordermarkt has been part of Amsterdam life for more than 400 years. With a wide range of items including clothes, furniture and even semi-precious stones, it has something for everyone. On Saturdays, the organic food market is filled with fresh produce, bread, cheese and other local specialities.
Albert Cuypmarkt
Open Monday – Saturday | 9:30 – 17:00
Located in the heart of the Pijp, Albert Cuypmarkt is one of Amsterdam’s most famous street markets in one of the city’s liveliest neighbourhoods. Alongside fashion, accessories and everyday essentials, you’ll find plenty of food stalls serving Dutch favourites including stroopwafels and herring.
Bloemenmarkt
Open Monday – Saturday 9:00 – 17:30 and Sunday 11:00 – 17:30
A must-visit when in Amsterdam, Bloemenmarkt dates back to 1862 and remains the world’s only floating flower market. Set on the Singel canal, you’ll find all types of plants displayed on barges. Even if you’re not shopping, it’s worth visiting for the setting and beautiful smells alone.
Markt Plein 40-45
Open Tuesday – Saturday | 9:00 – 17:30
Feel like a local strolling around Markt Plein 40-45 in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. This typical Dutch market sells everything from fresh produce to clothing and household items to handmade goods. It’s the perfect spot for those looking for something a bit different.
